Hi
In Games it is hard to measure. General testings are done with cyclietests, hackbench, “rtla” and jitterdebugger.
This tools are also used for testing real time kernel and applications.
Also CachyOS is using as default ananicy-cpp, which has a implementation for “latency_nice” which aims to improve the latency of tasks depending of its value. This is equal to “nice” but aims to improve the latency decisions of the scheduler.
Here you can read about this patchset:
https://lore.kernel.org/lkml/20230113141234.260128-1-vincent.guittot@linaro.org/
Additonally the kernel has a bunch of other latency related changes, like no_hz_full, a higher tickrate, …
The BORE Scheduler does mainly improve the responsives under heavy load. This can be also meassured with hackbench (spawning a lot of processes) and cyclietests.
We don’t focus on gaming much. We know that we have a lot of gamers, but CachyOS will be not a “gaming” distro or anything like this.
